Unexpected Inspiration – Unexpected Finger Puppets

Sometimes inspiration or ideas appears in very weird ways. A string of events or interesting leads end up in something like this: Now; I haven’t crocheted since I was 12. But I used to do it a lot back when I was a kid. Not using patterns or anything, just making random… things. Growing up it became a mystery to me, though, and I thought I had forgotten how to do it. But it worked out pretty well! So, what are these creatures?  A while back my friend Micu shared a wonderful movie with me called Mary & Max, and …

Recycle and Smell the Roses

Sometimes you just need something small and fiddly to craft while you can’t move about much, while you lie on the couch feeling fatigued and sorry for yourself. Say, if you are feeling really under the weather. Just in time for Valentine’s. So: These tiny little paper roses are perfect. So easy to make you can do it even if you have a fever, promise! There are plenty of tutorials for these out there, but I followed this one by Ann Martin over at All Things Paper. Excellent! Be sure to check out her other projects and tutorials as well. …

The Silver Pendant for my Dear Mother

I should have posted these pics at Christmas, but here they are, a bit late! My mum is such a sweetheart, and I love her so much. So, of course, if I can custom a gift for her that is unique and shows her how much I care, I will try my darndest! And as a crafter, giving a gift to ones mother is of course the optimal thing to do. Nobody loves your handmade gifts as much as your mum *wink* I wanted to make my mum a PMC (precious metal clay) silver pendant for Christmas, and I thought …

The Apple Print – Create 365, Day 16

Today’s prompt was to make a unique print, and cut an image out of a potato (But, I’m sick to death of potato prints. There’s just something about the mixed smells of potato and ink… *shiver* So I used an apple instead). I wanted to use the shape of the apple itself, since it’s simply so beautiful. Also, unique organic print for almost no money. Pretty neat! I tried to do a couple of prints with different inks on some watercolour paper. Most of them came out really well! I worked on them some more by blending some distress inks, …

The Cheese Pirate Earrings

Vanja Utne is a Norwegian illustrator and artist that I love. She makes wonderful art, and her illustrations are so charming and just looking at them makes me smile. She’s also the creator of one of my favourite comics on the web. Go visit her site and check out her wonderful stuff at CheesePirate.com: So, this Christmas she sent out some Frostfell cardswith her own illustrations on it, and she sent one to me! It was totally one of the highlights during the holidays, and certainly one of the nicest cards I’ve gotten. I wanted to send her a card …

The Cat With the Monocle – Create 365, Day 2

Well, it feels like I am off on on my 365 adventure… Today’s prompt was to get inspired by your favourite animal. Well, my favourite, not to much surprise to anyone that knows me, is my kitty, Sixxten the Cat (see more pics of him in my other blog). So I turned him into art. It was a total mess to make, with gesso, acrylic paint, distress inks, burlap, glaze and Modge Podge, but a whole lot of fun! And now I have this little canvas on a shelf above desk. Yay!

Starry Starry Earrings in Silver

This Christmas I wanted to make something handmade in silver for my friend Andrea, just to show her my appreciation. She’s been cheering me up and being very supportive, but we don’t get to hang out as much as I’d like. I decided to make a pair of earrings. I found a pair of sterling silver hoops that were perfect, and wanted a star theme (we both love stars, an it a theme that suits her!). I gotta tell you though; making all these tiny silver stars was a bit of a pain in the arse, especially getting the holes …

I Heart X-mas

I have started making some Christmas ornaments, and of course the most fun is to make something for your family. I decided to make these little hearts for my mum and dad to put in this tree, and I wanted them to look a bit vintage, so I painted the hearts in several layers of paint and then sanded the edges down a bit. When I decoupaged them I added some crackle glaze on top. The photos are of me and my brother when we were growing up, and there is also one of our old family dog, who …

Last flowers of the summer

Summer is over in Sweden, but were having some warm days still with sunshine and beautiful foliage. Here and there you can still see some stubborn flowers peaking out, which reminded me that I completely forgot to post the flower brooches I made this summer! (I had a little sneak peak in this post) So here they are, a bit late, like those late blossoms in our autumnal gardens. They were made especially for a combined hen night/bachelor party. I wanted to make something special for the couple, and on top of making them a distressed and vintage looking treasure …

Shiny Loot for Oakfairy

A very close and dear friend of mine had her birthday this week (she just came of age, if you count in hobbit years). I was planning to make her a little shiny birthday gift, but I realised that I’ve kept making her earrings, even though she can’t really wear them because of allergies. So I thought I’d take a stab at making her a wrist bracelet. I wanted loads of charms and pretty dangly beads on it; a sort of representation of her and her interests and personality, and symbols of her creativity and how inspiring she always is …

Tricks Bracelets

Tricks have been making all these neat and almost edible bracelets lately, they really remind me of the candy bracelets you could get as a kid (and you’d walk around all day with them around your wrist and eat the little sugar beads once in a while, at the end of the day you’d bee all high on candy and have sticky wrists). We decided to take a few shots of Tricks in her bracelets, which is easier said than done during winter season. We didn’t have a lot of extra lighting, so we had to use the flash, which …

Bring in the old, bring out the new

I’ve been on a big purge lately, trying to get rid of a lot of old stuff that I’ve been holding on to for years without even thinking about it. Some of it reminds me of less happy days in my life, and there is no need to hang on to them. Some of the things will come to a much better use for someone else. In the end I just want to make room for life: room to relax, room to craft and cook, room for things that make me happy, like good books and photos of friends and …
