52 Reasons I Love Him

52 Reasons I Love You - Project for Valentine's

I completely forgot to post my Valentine’s project for my boo! A bit late, but here it is!

He always makes me awesome handmade cards for Valentine’s every year, so I felt I wanted to make something to show him I love that and how much I love him. So, why not 52 reasons? I’ve seen similar projects here and there on the Mighty Internet, and loved the idea, so I decided to do my own little Deck of Cards Mini Book. A perfect base to list 52 reasons why you love your sweetheart. Enjoy!

The Breakfast Prompt – Create 365, Day 9

I’m moving on in my project to make something every day for 365 days, and today, day 9, the prompt in Noah Scalin’s diary said: Do something with your breakfast.

Sadly I didn’t have time for breakfast this morning, but it is a Monday, and I was tired, so I treated myself to a wonderful, warm, creamy, frothy, wonderful latte. And then I called it breakfast.

The coffee was indeed so nice and perked me up so much that I felt compelled to write an Espresso Story (as story that should take no longer than an espresso takes to drink, in 25 words or less). This is how it turned out:

Over my dead body, I said. And look at me now…

New day tomorrow. Day 10! Will I last two weeks? I hope so… Maybe I should just keep drinking coffee.

Altering an Old Book – Create 365, Day 8

Day 8! One I’ve been looking forward too. The prompt for day 8 could not have been more perfect: Make an old book into something new.

I’ve been wanting to alter a book for a long time, but I haven’t gotten around to it. I grew up loving books with all my heart, cherishing them, taking good care of them… to alter and change a book has felt a bit big and scary, you know, like I’m crossing a line. But no more! This beautiful old thing, that is sadly falling apart anyway, will get a new life as an album documenting this year (The title is “The Conquest of the World”, which of course I feel is very fitting):

I’ve been researching for a while on how to do this thing, so today’s prompt really… prompted me get started! One resource I’ve been looking at is Noel Hyman’s vids at Paperclipping . Noel (and her husband Izzie) makes really high quality vids, and Noel has a lot of good ideas and is very pedagogical. I highly recommend having a look! I feel much more confident now, having seen a few examples. Other than that I try to find examples on Youtube from mixed media artists.

So, today I made the cover. I was very happy to finally get a chance to use a beautiful paper by Kaisercraft, Hidden, from the Secret Bird Society collection. It’s been sitting in my stash for a while, one of those “it’s so pretty I can’t bear to use it”. Also, I got to open a brand new pack of Tim Holtz’s Ornate Plates that’s been sitting on my shelf since before Christmas. Yay!

This is the front cover:

And this is the back:

The book plate is filled with little cogs and pebbles and beads, and I’ll fill it in with some glaze to encase it all, but I wanted to take these photos first, since it takes ages for it to dry properly. The word in the book plate is “Create”, which is my One Little Word for 2012. I’m so excited about this book, and hope to fill it with lot’s of stories, memories and photos from this year. Onwards and Upwards!

Hope you liked the photos! Thank you for stopping by. Keep creating!

The Cat With the Monocle – Create 365, Day 2

Well, it feels like I am off on on my 365 adventure…

Today’s prompt was to get inspired by your favourite animal. Well, my favourite, not to much surprise to anyone that knows me, is my kitty, Sixxten the Cat (see more pics of him in my other blog). So I turned him into art. It was a total mess to make, with gesso, acrylic paint, distress inks, burlap, glaze and Modge Podge, but a whole lot of fun! And now I have this little canvas on a shelf above desk. Yay!

I Heart X-mas

I have started making some Christmas ornaments, and of course the most fun is to make something for your family. I decided to make these little hearts for my mum and dad to put in this tree, and I wanted them to look a bit vintage, so I painted the hearts in several layers of paint and then sanded the edges down a bit. When I decoupaged them I added some crackle glaze on top.

The photos are of me and my brother when we were growing up, and there is also one of our old family dog, who we all miss dearly. I thought this would be a nice way to add some memory keeping to our Christmas, and something a bit different than a mini album or a scrapbook page. There are so many fun ways to preserve those memories!

Taking the time

Whenever Tricks find a gift for someone she always takes time to wrap it in the most beautiful way, making it so much more than the gift inside the box, the gift wrapping itself makes it all the more special. So when she had her birthday last year I wanted to do the same for her.

For this set of gifts I chose a wrapping paper with colours that would match her dress and the colour scheme for the party itself:

Of course the pressies needed a matching bag

Punch out details from the wrapping paper and stick on the gift with some glue dots

I had a lot of fun with the following ones. Of course I found a lot of fun scrapbook supplies, which means that I could either do one big gift of them all or wrap them all separately. I chose a combination of both. Cherry blossoms was something that occurred in a couple of her projects, using a lot of those sort of stamps, so I decided to make her a blossoming tree, hanging all the gifts from the branches:

Some green silk paper, japanese rice paper and glass pearls to match the cherry blossom tree

It was a great evening with a lot of happy friends and family, and I hope Tricks will remember for a long time and that that it makes her smile!

The Numbers are Up

I’m making a small album with photos from my trip to Italy, and I couldn’t find an album I liked. I got a generic one instead, and am going to try and spruce it up. I wanted some chipboard numbers to glue on the front but could not find any in the right size or shape. I did however find really cheap ones made of light weight wood at the craft store, sold piece by piece. So, that way, I can alter them any way I want, and in the end I don’t have a box of left overs I won’t use. Win!

So I painted them red with ordinary acrylic paint, and then I used a glossy accent that crackles as it dries. It’ll match the Italy-inspired ribbon i found, so now I feel all co-ordinated and matchy ;) Gluing them on the front cover of the album with some bead glue will keep them in place.

Cheap and plain wooden numbers, painted to match the colours of the ribbon. (Also notice the time warp back to 2001)

Use a glossy or crackled glaze to give it dimension (you can glaze just about anything...)

Ready to use, crackeled red numbers to glue on album.

Personalize

Well, when Tricks gives you something she does it with a flare, even just a bottle of red will get her personal attention. Like this one, simple and beautiful. Cheers!

Who'd say no to this?

Where buttons live

Ma’ Clay Buttons needed somewhere to live so I decided to alter this tin. It used to contain some nice dark chocolate Jonny gave me but now when that’s gone (how, oh how?). This is my first “real” altered object, I’m rather pleased.  I just l love those dots!
