Go Nuts With Your Washi Tape – Cute Hot Air Balloon

I remember watching a scrapbooking video about 6-7 years ago here this woman was raving over using tape on her projects. At that point it wasn’t washi tape, but shiny, colourful plastic tape, some with metallic patterns. I remember my reaction, how I couldn’t understand it at all, why use tape? So, fast-forward to present day and the washi tape craze. I’m stuck in the middle of it. The trend has completely exploded and so many brands have their own take on this product; so many different pretty colours, patterns and textures. I’ve read in some forums how some people wonder how they will ever use it all, and I wonder: Did I Overbuy?

But then I think: How could I? You can use it on EVERYTHING. Layouts, mini albums, cards, tags, altered items like books, frames and boxes, on embellishments, or make it INTO an embellishment itself. Use it to decorate your phone or diary or calender, use it to tape something on the fridge and make the world a brighter place. So, lot’s of uses out of those yards of tape, huh?

Why not use it to embellish a shape for a card or a layout? I made this card to day with a hot air balloon as a theme, really easy peasy and great fun to make. Just draw a shape, turn the paper over, tape the back side, flip it back and cut out your motif. Done! On this card  used both store bought paper tape, and some handmade tape I made myself with masking tape, tissue paper and stamps.

Hope you like it!

My Head in the Clouds – Cards for Create 365

I have not had time for a proper update for a few days, but that does not mean I have given up on my projects! Since last time, I have taken photos daily, gone for a photo walk in a frosty forest, written a little bit on a story almost every day, made some samples for wedding invitations for some lovely friends that are getting married this summer, celebrated my 2-year anniversary with my boo, and generally making some plans for some exciting things in my life. Feels pretty awesome! I completely approve of this projects, it’s so much fun!

Can you believe it’s almost been a month?

Tonight I wanted to try some more masking techniques, and so I decided to turn my last experiment inside out. So I cut out a bunch of clouds and adhered them to thick cardstock with some 2 way glue (easy to remove after adding all the colour). I had to help hold them down a bit when I worked with the distress inks, but other than that it worked just fine! Here’s how the cards turned out:

Some happy cards to give away to happy people! Love how they turned out! But I’m feeling like I need to invest in more colours regarding distress inks. Like, all of the colours…

Hope you had a great Monday and stay crafty!

Last flowers of the summer

Summer is over in Sweden, but were having some warm days still with sunshine and beautiful foliage. Here and there you can still see some stubborn flowers peaking out, which reminded me that I completely forgot to post the flower brooches I made this summer! (I had a little sneak peak in this post) So here they are, a bit late, like those late blossoms in our autumnal gardens.

They were made especially for a combined hen night/bachelor party. I wanted to make something special for the couple, and on top of making them a distressed and vintage looking treasure map for the day I also made these paper corsages for the entire party.

I cut out a whole bunch of flowers from green, orange and red paper, crunched and curled them and glued them together. I punched out some hearts in black, to pose as pistils, and attached them in the middle with some black stickles.

It really was a lot of fun to make them, and I’m rather impressed with myself that I finished them in time! Most of all it felt great to be able to bring a gift to that special day that was hand made.

More Photography in My Life

This layout is all about me embarking on a deeper journey into the art of photography. I’ve had a camera pretty much since I was 6 or 7 years old, took photography in high school, and got my analogue SLR in my early twenties. The step to digital was a big one, and I sort of fell out of the habit. I had the camera for many years without really using it to it’s full potential, but then something changed in my life, and now I’m feeling more inspired and creative than I’ve ever have. All I want to do now  id to photograph everything. EVERYTHING. All the time. And get better.

The best thing about this layout, for me, is that it was such a surprise. I remembered the sketch challenge a bit last minute and pulled a photo from my stack of prints, and this self portrait is what I grabbed. The stripy paper is a leftover scrap from one of my old favourite papers, that I’ve sort of kept safe for a rainy day (yeah… I know…). The journalling is done on a page from an old book, after I wiped some gesso on it. I used another page, torn into tiny squares, for the title. The dotted ribbon I love, and I think it was one the first ones I ever bought. Awesome to finally get to use it!

The composition of this layout is inspired from this sketch at the Swedish webzine Allt om Scrap, and is a part of their summer competition. Great fun!

A Tricky Challenge – Dotty Madness Scrapbook Layout

The Swedish webzine “Allt om Scrap” publishes an inspiration issue every Sunday, and last Sunday they posted some layouts from a challenge they did. I didn’t have time to do it last weekend, but I thought it sounded like a lot of fun, so I took some time yesterday to do it, since it really did feel like a challenge. Listen to this:

  • May only contain patterned papers. Must use acrylic paints and 4 different stamps. Have to have one type of overlay and at least 3 tags. And finally, it must have sewing machine stitches.
  • Can not include flowers, ribbons or lace. No corrugated cardboard allowed, and may not contain anything white!

Well… Only patterned papers and nothing white? Hello? I haven’t really done a traditional, full-size scrapbook layout before, so why not start with something difficult? Go big, that sort of thing. I got the perfect idea and I wanted Tricks in it, so this is what happened:

Yes, we like our dots ;) I really had bite my tongue plenty of times, not to reach for plain one-coloured papers, keeping the white details out, not using any string. In the end I’m pleased with the result, I wouldn’t have thought of this idea if it hadn’t been for the specifications in this challenge. Thank you, Tricks, for doing the photo shoot with me! You look really beautiful in that dotty dress!

Hello christmas!

I know a very stylish young lady named Louisa, who loves Hello Kitty (she can also play winkle Twinkle Little Star on piano!). Well, I found the perfect hair clips for her last year, and wanted to send them to her, and it just happened to be close to Christmas, so there you go. I realised I haven’t posted the pics here, so since I’m all into the Christmas cards right now, I thought I’d add it now.

I found a motif to match the hair clips, which I printed out and attached to a piece of chipboard to make it more sturdy. The eyes and whiskers on the picture were glazed to make them stand out a bit. The different background papers were raised up in different levels with adhesive foam dots, so that there was room to snap the hair clips directly on to the card.

I can say with no doubt that this is the most girly Christmas card I have ever made… or will ever make… unless someone challenges me to make another one ;)

Where buttons live

Ma’ Clay Buttons needed somewhere to live so I decided to alter this tin. It used to contain some nice dark chocolate Jonny gave me but now when that’s gone (how, oh how?). This is my first “real” altered object, I’m rather pleased.  I just l love those dots!
