My Friend Who Got Married – Scrapping an old photo

Shimelle Laine’s mysterious accomplice, Glitter Girl, posted another great video this week, this time about scrapping larger photos, which was pretty perfect considering I have some larger prints I’ve been dying to use. My friend Sara got married ten, correction, TWELVE years ago and I was the bridesmaid. It was such an honour to be asked, and I have so many great memories from that day! Like hoe we met early to do the hair and make-up, and the photo shoot before the wedding, and how I found myself crying so much during the ceremony so much that I think my sniffles was echoing in the church, and how all the guests held a joint speech for the couple during dinner, and dancing so much I had to take off my shoes.

We were so young then, and now suddenly it’s been ten years and Sara and her husband Tor (Thor! How cool a name is that?) have two beautiful children and a house that was once small but keeps getting bigger every now and then (they are a super handy family!). They are a happy bunch and that makes me happy.

The photographer they hired for the wedding had also taken a lot of photos for our theatre group. There are so many great shots from the photo shoot before the wedding, and not only of the gorgeous couple on their special day, but luck had it that we had a few minutes extra for a few photos of Sara and I. Among them this one is my favourite, because I know that the happy smiles are completely spontaneous.

So this is how the layout turned out:

Thank you for stopping by! Stay safe!

On the Steps – Scrapbook Layout

Ok, so here’s a silly thing: I like sketches, but I’ve hardly ever done a layout based one. It’s a bit like when I’m cooking; I LOVE inspiring recipes but I hardly ever use them when cooking.  I just wing it. But I felt like trying it out some more, and found this sketch challenge on a new Swedish sketch blog, lillblommanskissar.se. Fun! Perfect timing, too! The rules were quite lenient, I could twist and turn the sketch and add or withdraw element, as long as it shows that the layout is based on the sketch.

As I dug through my box of printed photos (I have a stash of photos I love, just waiting for the right moment) this photo of my friends Sara and Cecilia jumped out at me. It was a wonderful summer, many years ago, when the three of us spent a week together at Sara’s summer cabin. It was the three of us, hanging out in the sun, going to the beach, cooking good food, drinking some wine, having a little summer vacation together. You know that feeling when summer is so intense and perfect that you can just close your eyes and smell it and feel it on your skin? That was what it was like. This is my friends on the steps to the main house, having ice cream:

On the same steps we also had some perfectly chilled Russian champagne and smoked shrimps. It leads up to a small nook of the house that is called a “Punch Veranda” in Swedish, which could be translated as a Punch Porch, or a Toddy Porch (ha, I love that!). Anyways, it was a very happy time, and I just live the photo with it’s sharp sunshine, the old steps, the bare feet, the roses growing wild.

I wanted the layout to feel fun and carefree, like that week, so I played around with some paper tape, colour wash and some watercolour splatter.

Here are some details:

Thank you for coming by and reading my blog *s*. Hope you had a great weekend. Tomorrow is MONDAY! Onwards and upwards, my friends!

Go Nuts With Your Washi Tape – Cute Hot Air Balloon

I remember watching a scrapbooking video about 6-7 years ago here this woman was raving over using tape on her projects. At that point it wasn’t washi tape, but shiny, colourful plastic tape, some with metallic patterns. I remember my reaction, how I couldn’t understand it at all, why use tape? So, fast-forward to present day and the washi tape craze. I’m stuck in the middle of it. The trend has completely exploded and so many brands have their own take on this product; so many different pretty colours, patterns and textures. I’ve read in some forums how some people wonder how they will ever use it all, and I wonder: Did I Overbuy?

But then I think: How could I? You can use it on EVERYTHING. Layouts, mini albums, cards, tags, altered items like books, frames and boxes, on embellishments, or make it INTO an embellishment itself. Use it to decorate your phone or diary or calender, use it to tape something on the fridge and make the world a brighter place. So, lot’s of uses out of those yards of tape, huh?

Why not use it to embellish a shape for a card or a layout? I made this card to day with a hot air balloon as a theme, really easy peasy and great fun to make. Just draw a shape, turn the paper over, tape the back side, flip it back and cut out your motif. Done! On this card  used both store bought paper tape, and some handmade tape I made myself with masking tape, tissue paper and stamps.

Hope you like it!

My Head in the Clouds – Cards for Create 365

I have not had time for a proper update for a few days, but that does not mean I have given up on my projects! Since last time, I have taken photos daily, gone for a photo walk in a frosty forest, written a little bit on a story almost every day, made some samples for wedding invitations for some lovely friends that are getting married this summer, celebrated my 2-year anniversary with my boo, and generally making some plans for some exciting things in my life. Feels pretty awesome! I completely approve of this projects, it’s so much fun!

Can you believe it’s almost been a month?

Tonight I wanted to try some more masking techniques, and so I decided to turn my last experiment inside out. So I cut out a bunch of clouds and adhered them to thick cardstock with some 2 way glue (easy to remove after adding all the colour). I had to help hold them down a bit when I worked with the distress inks, but other than that it worked just fine! Here’s how the cards turned out:

Some happy cards to give away to happy people! Love how they turned out! But I’m feeling like I need to invest in more colours regarding distress inks. Like, all of the colours…

Hope you had a great Monday and stay crafty!

More Photography in My Life

This layout is all about me embarking on a deeper journey into the art of photography. I’ve had a camera pretty much since I was 6 or 7 years old, took photography in high school, and got my analogue SLR in my early twenties. The step to digital was a big one, and I sort of fell out of the habit. I had the camera for many years without really using it to it’s full potential, but then something changed in my life, and now I’m feeling more inspired and creative than I’ve ever have. All I want to do now  id to photograph everything. EVERYTHING. All the time. And get better.

The best thing about this layout, for me, is that it was such a surprise. I remembered the sketch challenge a bit last minute and pulled a photo from my stack of prints, and this self portrait is what I grabbed. The stripy paper is a leftover scrap from one of my old favourite papers, that I’ve sort of kept safe for a rainy day (yeah… I know…). The journalling is done on a page from an old book, after I wiped some gesso on it. I used another page, torn into tiny squares, for the title. The dotted ribbon I love, and I think it was one the first ones I ever bought. Awesome to finally get to use it!

The composition of this layout is inspired from this sketch at the Swedish webzine Allt om Scrap, and is a part of their summer competition. Great fun!

Being spoiled by friends

There are seriously few gifts that mean so much as something someone made themselves. Time is precious for everyone, to use your time to think, plan, and make something with someone else in mind is, for me, a very big compliment. I’ve been meaning to post a picture of this for the longest time now, this beautiful knitted comfort shawl that Hanna made me. I love the colours, the pattern, the shape, I can’t believe she put so much effort into it! I wear it whenever I feel a bit chilly (which I do every so often in my old crappy apartment) and it’s The Perfect Gaming Shawl.

Thank you Hanna, I don’t know if I said it enough!

Photo very sneakily taken by Jed

Here is more pictures of another one hanna nkitted, go see! And another one :) I wish I could knit… (She has tried to teach me, maybe it’s time for another try).
