Go Nuts With Your Washi Tape – Cute Hot Air Balloon

I remember watching a scrapbooking video about 6-7 years ago here this woman was raving over using tape on her projects. At that point it wasn’t washi tape, but shiny, colourful plastic tape, some with metallic patterns. I remember my reaction, how I couldn’t understand it at all, why use tape? So, fast-forward to present day and the washi tape craze. I’m stuck in the middle of it. The trend has completely exploded and so many brands have their own take on this product; so many different pretty colours, patterns and textures. I’ve read in some forums how some people wonder how they will ever use it all, and I wonder: Did I Overbuy?

But then I think: How could I? You can use it on EVERYTHING. Layouts, mini albums, cards, tags, altered items like books, frames and boxes, on embellishments, or make it INTO an embellishment itself. Use it to decorate your phone or diary or calender, use it to tape something on the fridge and make the world a brighter place. So, lot’s of uses out of those yards of tape, huh?

Why not use it to embellish a shape for a card or a layout? I made this card to day with a hot air balloon as a theme, really easy peasy and great fun to make. Just draw a shape, turn the paper over, tape the back side, flip it back and cut out your motif. Done! On this card  used both store bought paper tape, and some handmade tape I made myself with masking tape, tissue paper and stamps.

Hope you like it!

Handmade Christmas card with stars and wire

I mentioned earlier about my friend who loves stars  *S* So of course I made her a Xmas card with stars on it as well! I chose to just put the word “merry” on the front, because that’s exactly how she makes me feel :)

I love making my own Xmas cards and being able to make them a bit more personal. I’m so happy that it seems like the cards made it out in time!

More Photography in My Life

This layout is all about me embarking on a deeper journey into the art of photography. I’ve had a camera pretty much since I was 6 or 7 years old, took photography in high school, and got my analogue SLR in my early twenties. The step to digital was a big one, and I sort of fell out of the habit. I had the camera for many years without really using it to it’s full potential, but then something changed in my life, and now I’m feeling more inspired and creative than I’ve ever have. All I want to do now  id to photograph everything. EVERYTHING. All the time. And get better.

The best thing about this layout, for me, is that it was such a surprise. I remembered the sketch challenge a bit last minute and pulled a photo from my stack of prints, and this self portrait is what I grabbed. The stripy paper is a leftover scrap from one of my old favourite papers, that I’ve sort of kept safe for a rainy day (yeah… I know…). The journalling is done on a page from an old book, after I wiped some gesso on it. I used another page, torn into tiny squares, for the title. The dotted ribbon I love, and I think it was one the first ones I ever bought. Awesome to finally get to use it!

The composition of this layout is inspired from this sketch at the Swedish webzine Allt om Scrap, and is a part of their summer competition. Great fun!

More Urban Sphere pics

“Hello”

I chose this paper as the colour reminded me of one of those gorgeous sunsets you can get in a city when the sun and the sky reflects in all the windows. The patterns is made of fuzzy crushed velvet flock, which I think go rather well with the kitties living in the building :)

I glazed the windows and worked on the fasade to get something a bit grungy in colours that would match the background paper. It’s basically brown cardstock that I painted, sandpapered, embossed and inked.

“It Must Be Bunnies”

Being a softy for pop cult references, made me think of this title. I wanted houses that felt flower-powerish amd found this funky paper I got from Tricks:

More paint action on the paper, I’m starting to like that combo. It makes a busy paper a bit softer in the contrasts, and as a step up from just inking the edges it makes the paper look like a finished product. It’s an easy trick to get it to match another paper or a different colour.

“Knock Knock – Who’s There?”

Friendly monsters who’s taken up residence in one of the tower blocks. Stars made of tiny peel-offs, embossed dots and a silver pen.

Last X-mas I gave you my tags

Tricks made a set of incredibly creative tags for her sisters x-mas tree, and posted a couple pictures a while back. Thank you, Tricks! I was so curious about those tags, you’d told me about them but i didn’t get a chance to see them before the big day. I love how you do the unexpected, how you can get cheerful clouds and pink swirls and a trumpet-playing rabbit to be so x-massy :)

I’ve made sort-of-tags for my x-mas gifts before, I rather do something hand-made (even though it looks like it was made like a 3-year-old) when I wrap my gifts. This year though, since my stash of scrapbook goodies has grown in a very satisfactory way during 2008, Tricks idea of making real tags inspired me to do some for my gifts. Some extra inspiration courtesy of Tim Holtz and his beautiful 12 tags of Christmas, although I don’t think I could ever make something remotely as pretty as his!

Aaaanyways, here are my rather blurry photos of some of my tags, enjoy!
