Let’s Play!

I had a sort of mishap I wanted to use, and that was this sprayed background on white Bazzil. I’d mixed some Color Wash and Perfect Pearl Mist, and the result was awesome and happy and bold, but didn’t match the project I was working on at the moment. However, I thought it fitted this photo perfectly. I am also considerably pleased with the fact that I’ve used both a patterned paper and some alphas that has been sitting in my stash for at least 5 years! They’re some classic Basic Grey from that time, and I loved them, and I bought them, and still love them, but I loved them so  much I never used them. So, wohoo for using things from your stash!I’ve mixed it up with some Washi tape and some teen alphas from Glitz. It’s nice when you can mix old and new, I think!

The photo is of course one of Sixxten the Cat, who is a very playful cat who often brings toys around for you to play with. He’s very vocal; he has certain sounds for food or cuddles, or for when the bathroom door is accidentally shut, or for when someone has the nerve to go IN the bathroom and shut the door voluntarily, and for when he wants attention and wants to play. If you happen to ignore him, even though he’s brought toys and laid the by your feet, and even though he’s been making his intentions very clear, he will in the end poke you. Or, sort of slap you. Play, darn you! Play!

Starry Starry Earrings in Silver

This Christmas I wanted to make something handmade in silver for my friend Andrea, just to show her my appreciation. She’s been cheering me up and being very supportive, but we don’t get to hang out as much as I’d like. I decided to make a pair of earrings. I found a pair of sterling silver hoops that were perfect, and wanted a star theme (we both love stars, an it a theme that suits her!).

I gotta tell you though; making all these tiny silver stars was a bit of a pain in the arse, especially getting the holes for the hoop the right size without breaking the clay. But once they dried and I’d mended them with some paste, I could sand them down and polish them a bit. In the end they turned out great!

The burning process is one of my favourite parts about making PMC jewellery. It’s a little piece of magic, really. That thing you’ve been working on that looks so grey and dull suddenly bursts into flame and turns into pure silver. It’s pretty awesome, and it’s always very exciting to see the result!

Mixing it up with a colour perfect for my friend, this was the end result:

I’m really happy with the finished product, as soon as I pierce my ears I might make a pair for myself ;)

Scrapping my Dear Tricks

I’ve managed to take a lot of photos of Tricks this summer, and some of my favourites is from the weekend when she visited my parent s and me at the summer cabin. We had a lot of sunshine and spent some time relaxing down by the water, talking about life and love and plans. As she tried out the water I took a few shots, this is one of them.

The spot where she’s standing was my favourite spot when I was little, because it’s full of soft, green, luscious sea grass, and it isn’t too deep, so you can just stand there and let it tickle your toes. Somewhere deep in my stash I found this old patterned paper from Basic Grey, which I think originally is a Christmas paper, and from one of their retired collections (Figgy Pudding). It’s been one of those papers I’ve loved so much that I haven’t used it. But I just thought it fitted well as sea grass and sea weed.

This is what the journalling says:

“I remember how wonderful it felt when I first got the opportunity to invite my best friend to the summer cabin for the first time, and get to show her the place I think is the best on earth, to show her the place that filled my childhood with so many adventures. It became an instant tradition, and now it’s not even a proper summer if Sara doesn’t visit.”

I’m really glad I took the time to scrapbook this photo. I have so many great ones from all the years we’ve been friends, it’s really time to make them more accessible.

The composition of the layout was inspired by this sketch,
which is originally from a sketch challenge at the Swedish scrapbook shop Scraphuset.se.

Bon Voyage

I mentioned a colour challenge the other day, and it had me thinking for a while. Then I got to thinking about how the structure on the card stock felt a bit like an old travel bag I used to have, so I made a tiny version of it. Found a great vellum paper in turquoise with a postcard theme that I thought went well with the bag:

GreenOrangeTurquoise

Pysselmyran’s Blog issued a challenge this week that feels like a lot of fun, since it seems so out of the box for me when it comes to colour. They want you to create something in the the colours turquoise, orange and green. Huh? I can’t for the life of me think of anything to make these colours go together in a good way. But I will try… Meanwhile I tried to find some inspiration via flickr, to see how the colours would go together:

1. monkey family address label & mommy cards in green, 2. ruler card, 3. Deep green, 4. green GIRASOLE, 5. pretty clips/photo holders, 6. orange polka dot shoe, 7. plethora, 8. Orange Package, 9. orange, 10. Blue Posies Blossom Card (Open), 11. Robot, 12. Fortune Teller, 13. turquoise and green holiday snowflake gift tags, 14. Keeping it Straight Jotter, 15. Life is Better with Friends – Handmade Card, 16. 2010 Letterpress Calendar Poster (detail)

All these pics are found in the Paper Crafting Group on Flickr

A challenge in turquoise

www.scraplagret.se, a great Swedish web shop, has a fun challenge every month. The October challenge was to create a  layout, a card, something altered or whatever seemed fun, in a christmas theme, but in non-traditional christmas colours. The deal was to use pink, turquoise or/and purple. Now, what I really like about challenges, especially ones like these, is that it makes you think outside your own tiny, little box. Would I have made a christmas card in turquoise if not for this challenge? Probably not. I would probably have stuck to gren, red and gold. So there you go, challenges are fun. I will have to do more!

And this is the card! Keep your fingers crossed:

Time to get into that christmas spirit, peeps! 70 days left to find those pressies to your loved ones! Woo!
